BBA has a fast-growing advisory business and is strengthening its position in the renewable power sector, building on its momentum across Canada and growing our business in the United States and internationally.
In this subject matter expert role, the Renewable Energy Forecasting and Analytics Lead will leverage their expertise, knowledge of the industry, client relationships and industry experience to achieve BBA’s objectives, and be responsible for developing capabilities and delivering services in wind and solar energy resource assessment, energy yield forecasting, and performance analytics.
This position’s focus will be to deliver and develop a comprehensive in-house capability for renewable energy resource assessment and energy yield forecasting. Reporting to the Senior Advisor – Wind, Solar, and Energy Storage, the successful candidate will execute client projects (for project development, financing, due diligence, or M&A purposes), identify and close gaps in existing capabilities, and train and mentor junior staff toward proficiency.
BBA is a matrix organization, the power markets business lines have a national focus, and the company has a growing international presence. The business lines are responsible for defining the strategy and overall sector performance while relying on BBA’s operational teams’ disciplines located across Canada, the United States and Chile, for execution of its mandates and projects, while at times directly managing and executing certain strategic projects.

Operations
- Act as Project Leader and/or Project Manager for select strategic projects and clients
- Oversee execution of resource assessment, energy forecasting, and energy analytics projects
- Identify internal competency gaps and work with the Wind & Solar business line leadership to recruit talent
- Coach, mentor, and train junior staff in your technical discipline
- Maintain awareness of trends and directions in energy modeling and assessment software, hardware, processes, standards, and methodologies
- Engage and direct internal resources
- Provide expertise and guidance to both BBA’s clients and project teams
- Engage with BBA’s operational teams and disciplines across Canada
- Day-to-day execution of technical and strategic mandates based on areas of expertise and in coordination with BBA’s internal disciplines located across Canada
Business development
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders in the renewable energy sector across Canada and the U.S
- Provide exposure to potential new clients and expand relationships with existing clients
- Position for opportunities, generate proposals and implement a pursuit/capture strategy
- Work with the Client Account Managers (CAMs) to ensure a coordinated client management process
- Build strong relationships internally within the business lines, operations and more broadly

- Provide input into the Wind & Solar proposal execution plan and deliverables
- Support proposal preparation through technical expertise and experience, creative thinking and alternative approaches

Competencies:
- Renewable energy Power sector – project development, execution, technical aspects
- Experience delivering energy yield assessment forecasts suitable for project financing, M&A, and due diligence
- Thought leadership on methods, uncertainties and losses in renewable power projects
Summary of certifications and job
requirements
- Engineering degree from a recognized college or university and registered as a Professional Engineer within one or more regions within Canada or the United States
- At least 15 years of relevant electric power sector experience
- 10 or more years of experience in wind/solar resource assessment, data collection/measurement campaigns, energy yield forecasting at an industry expert level
- Experience with met masts, remote sensing devices (LiDAR), solar stations, and other relevant meteorological equipment
- Familiarity with campaign planning, equipment selection, deployment, data collection, maintenance and data management
- Experience with modern wind and solar resource assessment software, e.g. Windfarmer, Windographer, WAsP, windPRO, PVsyst, and similar
- Experience with selecting and applying reanalysis datasets
- Programming skills in such languages as MATLAB, Python, VBA, or similar
- Experienced in statistical and mathematical simulation methods for risks and uncertainties, i.e. Monte Carlo simulation, QRA, regression analysis
- Excellent skills with respect to quality control
- Safety-minded thinking
- Able to travel domestically within Canada and internationally including the United States and South America
- Asset: Budgeting, estimating and/or scheduling experience
- Asset: Exposure to and knowledge of battery energy storage systems
- Asset: Bilingual (English + French and/or Spanish)
